FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about what CircuitMap is, how teams use it, and what it costs. If your question isn't here, ask us directly — the contact page goes to a person.
The basics
- Who is CircuitMap for?
- Facilities, estates, maintenance, operations and compliance teams — the people responsible for buildings. You don't need to be an electrician to use it. Electricians and contractors work in it too, but the record is designed to be owned and read by the wider team.
- Is CircuitMap a CAD tool?
- No. CircuitMap uses your existing floor plans as a visual backdrop and stores the electrical record as structured data on top. There is nothing to draw, no layers to manage and no CAD licence to buy.
- Does it replace our CAFM or CMMS system?
- No — it complements them. CAFM systems track work; CircuitMap holds the building knowledge that work depends on: which board feeds what, where circuits run, and the documentation behind them. Many teams use both.
- What do we need to get started?
- Floor plans (PDFs or images) and whatever records you have — circuit schedules, handover packs, even a knowledgeable walk-round. Most teams have a first building usable within days.
Day-to-day use
- How do we keep the record accurate over time?
- By making updates cheap. Editing a circuit, moving a marker or attaching a certificate takes minutes in the browser. Teams typically fold it into their small-works and contractor sign-off process: the job isn't finished until the record reflects it.
- Can contractors use it on site?
- Yes. CircuitMap runs in the browser on laptops and tablets. You control what each account can see and edit, and access can be time-limited to the duration of a job.
- Can we print circuit schedules?
- Yes — schedules have print-ready layouts, so the copy on the board room door can finally match the copy on screen.
- How does search work?
- One search box covers boards, circuits, rooms, assets and documents across your estate. Search by reference, name or location and jump straight to the record and its position on the plan.
Data, security and IT
- Where does our data live, and who can see it?
- Your records live in your CircuitMap instance, with role-based access you control. Enterprise plans include dedicated single-tenant deployment options for organisations that require full isolation. See the Security page for detail.
- What happens to our data if we leave?
- It's yours. Records and documents can be exported in standard formats at any time — no exit negotiation.
- Is CircuitMap secure enough for a regulated estate?
- CircuitMap is built with role-based access control, encrypted transport, server-side session validation, audit trails and hardened security headers. We're happy to work through your security questionnaire — get in touch.
